Linking locations

How you decide which location in one store matches which location in the other, and why the app never touches locations outside a link.

What a location link is

A location link defines which locations in the different stores hold the same inventory. For example: the "Main warehouse" in store A is the same as "Warehouse North" in store B.

  • Syncing only happens within a location link.
  • A group can have several location links. A change stays within its link.
  • Each store has at most one location per link, and each location is in at most one link.
  • A location link needs locations from at least two stores.
  • The app never changes locations that aren't in a location link.

Without a link, the app doesn't know which location is which. That's why you can only turn on real-time sync once there is at least one location link.

One location per store

If every store in the group has exactly one location, the app links them for you as soon as you open "Locations". The link is called "Main location", and above it you see "Connected automatically because each store has exactly one location." There's nothing else to do.

Several locations

If a store has several locations, the page shows "Matching needed". Until you decide which location belongs where, the app doesn't sync anything.

  1. Open "Locations".
  2. Under "Connect locations", enter a name, for example "Main warehouse". Without a name, the link is called "Location 1", "Location 2" and so on.
  3. For each store, choose the location that belongs in this link. "— not included —" leaves a store out of this link.
  4. Click "Connect".
  5. For the next link, use the section "Connect another location".

"Not connected" shows, for each store, which locations are still free.

Change or remove a link

Each existing link has its own section. Change the name or the locations there and click "Save". "Disconnect" removes the link. The app no longer changes the locations that were in it.

Locations that can't be linked

The app doesn't offer two kinds of locations for selection. They appear under "Not connected", marked "can't be connected":

  • inactive: the location is deactivated in the store.
  • managed by …: another service manages inventory at this location, for example a fulfillment provider.

If the app can't read a store's locations right now, it says so there, with the reason. Try again later.

What the app never does to locations

The app never activates a location or turns on inventory tracking by itself. If a linked location doesn't track inventory for an item, the app skips it and records that in the activity log ("Skipped"). If you want that location synced, turn on inventory tracking for it in the store, on the product under "Inventory".
